It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Wooo!! It's the hap-happiest season of all. No, it's not Christmas, it's EASTER! Lots and lots of people have been born. In fact, people are born every day. Plenty of people have died too. But only one person has died and then, after three days of being dead and descending into hell, come triumphantly back to life. That's why Easter is a big deal and why it should be the party of the year as far as Christians are concerned. It's a celebration of Jesus' historic championship win over death, which had been riding an unbeaten streak since the post-Eden era.

Our culture has no way to express the magnitude of this triumph. The throw your hands in the air, scream at the top of your lungs, and cry with joy feeling of perfect, permanent victory. Here are a few things which come close:

1)When the Death Star blows up at the end of Star Wars
"Great shot kid that was one in a million"

I love Star Wars and no moment gets my blood flowing and my skin tingling like when the evil Empire's Death Star is destroyed, freeing the galaxy forever. Another such moment is when Han Solo comes flying back to save the day. As impressive as it is to destroy the Death Star, Jesus destroyed death itself. You can't have a Death Star without death which means that, by extension, Jesus actually destroyed the Death Star.

2) The 1980 Miracle on Ice
Nobody expected this ragtag team of young players to beat the experienced Soviet Union team, a program which had won gold every Olympics since 1964. Everybody loves an underdog and so when the unlikely American team won it was a cause for immense pride and celebration, especially for Americans. Imagine the emotions when it turns out that a poor, skinny, young carpenter from Nazareth is actually God. Not only that, but this hometown hero fulfilled all the prophecies and won the ultimate triumph over Satan. Say what you will about the Soviet Union, but coming from behind to upset Satan is more impressive.

3) Destiny's Child surprise reunion at the Super Bowl halftime show
There are no scrubs in Heaven
Everyone loves Destiny's Child and it's sad that they aren't a band, although it hasn't stopped Beyonce from becoming perhaps our generation's greatest performer. I was tending bar at a party during the last Super Bowl and when the rest of Destiny's Child popped up on stage, my customers went NUTS . There was screaming and laughing and dancing and even weeping. Something that people loved and missed had come back. This is exactly what happens on Easter. Jesus, who we love and adore, comes back to life to be with us again. We can't contain our joy!

As a Christian, I would like to officially invite you to Church today. Most Churches will be putting their best foot forward today in celebration of their risen Savior so it's a great time to be there. If you're not so keen, please accept my invitation to be joyful today, even if it's for no reason.

The Land of Milk and Honey
The land of milk and honey is like easy street. It's where there is abundance and no need. In Christ risen there is abundance of love and no despair.

Ingredients: 1 shot honey whiskey, 4-6oz. milk, two frozen strawberries for ice cubes.

Just make sure the ingredients are cold, put them together, and stir. Have a happy Easter, not a drunk Easter.
